Pastor's Paragraph for May 13, 2018
MAY 13, 2018
The Bible (2 Kings 2) says that the prophet Elijah was taken up to heaven in a whirlwind. These weeks leading up to my retirement have seemed like our own personal whirlwind! After living in church owned parsonages for the past 40 years, this coming Tuesday (5/15) Marty and I will be moving out of the parsonage and into the first home of our own at 2709 Yale Avenue—just about four blocks from CHUM. We welcome you to stop by and say hello when you’re in the neighborhood. We’ll be spending much of this next week trying to get settled into the new house just in time to host our sons and their families next weekend, when they’re coming to join us at CHUM for Saturday evening’s (5/19) retirement celebration. On June 1st at Annual Conference in Hershey, I will participate in the Celebration of Ministry Service in which all the approximately 34 clergy retiring this year will be recognized. Then, my final Sunday at CHUM will take place on June 3rd (3 weeks from today). Following worship on June 3rd, I plan to use up my remaining vacation days, so that I will be on vacation through June 30th. The week of June 24-30 my two sons are taking me to Canada fishing to celebrate my retirement. My first official day of retirement is Sunday, July 1st—which is also just happens to be my 65th birthday! Our 1st grandchild was born the week before we started at CHUM, and number 5 will be born just about two weeks after we finish. We’re expecting grandson #3 in Pittsburgh around 7/14! God is indeed good—all the time!
