Pastor's Paragraph for June 24, 2018
JUNE 24, 2018
I am so very excited today to welcome my friend and colleague, the Rev. Dr. Roger Scholtz, to the pulpit, while on his speaking tour to the U.S. from South Africa! Roger was the senior minister when I served as a newly commissioned pastor at Manning Road, Methodist Church in Durban, South Africa from 2008 to 2012. Roger also has spent significant time in his career, serving in the American United Methodist context, as the interim senior pastor of Hyde Park UMC, Tampa in 2015, so he knows well and loves the opportunity to engage across cultures! Roger was ordained in 1996 and served in Methodist churches in Durban until 2011, when he took leave to work on his doctorate at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He now is pastor of Kloof Methodist Church outside of Durban and also is a lecturer at the Seth Mokitimi Methodist Seminary in Pietermaritzburg. Roger is a formidable scholar, preacher, and jokester, is a sought-after speaker, and has even had the rare opportunity to interview Nelson Mandela. He shares life with his lovely wife, Leigh, and his beautiful children, Michaela, Kelsey, Jake, and John. I have been deeply grateful for Roger’s wisdom in my life and trust that the word he brings from God today and during his workshop tomorrow night will bless and challenge your minds and hearts, as well.
Grace & peace to you,
