Pastor's Paragraph for August 25, 2019

AUGUST 25, 2019

Last week, Pastor Gary and I shared during worship that I will be taking a month of renewal leave in October. In light of that announcement, I’d like to thank you for your encouragement! I have been deeply grateful, as well, for the support of staff, the Unified Leadership Council, the District Superintendent and Bishop, and Pastor Gary.

The UMC Book of Discipline creates provision for clergy who have held full-time appointments for at least six years to take formational and spiritual growth leave of up to six months while continuing to hold an appointment in a local church. I am now in my 12th year of full-time ministry, and while I have no doubt that I am called to be a pastor, I am finding that I need time for discernment on how, exactly, I am called to serve, in a healthier way that will be more sustainable for a lifetime of ministry. So, I will be going on retreat, spending time in spiritual direction, and will be in an intentional season of discernment and connection time with my family. You may, or may not, see my husband, Simon, and our son, Dominic, around, but I would be grateful, if you would keep us all in your prayers.

I will be doing continuing education from September 25th—28th. I will preach in New Life on September 29th, and I will begin leave officially on October 1st. I will return to work on October 30th, serving at the fall General Commission on Religion & Race board meeting from October 30th through November 2nd, and returning to the pulpit in New Life on November 3rd.

During October, I also will be conducting the wedding of a high school friend at an outside venue. Our bell choir will be performing, as well, so that, most likely will be the only time I reappear from being “off the grid.”

I thank you for your patience with this process, and please know that as usual, until October, my door is open, if you have questions or concerns!

Grace, peace, and gratitude,
