Pastor's Paragraph for October 20, 2019
OCTOBER 20, 2019
I want to offer a sincere, condensed and simple expression of gratitude to the members of Camp Hill United Methodist Church. The apostle Paul penned his deep appreciation to the saints at Philippi by saying, “I thank God every time I remember you…because of your partnership in the Gospel from the first day until now…” Phil.1:3 and 5. I feel the same way about Camp Hill UMC. In July of 1997, the leadership of Camp Hill UMC invited me onto the staff to serve as a youth pastor, and launch Salt ‘n Light Youth Ministry, Inc. With the blessing of Bishop Irons, Rev. Ron Bowersox, and the incredible lay leadership of Camp Hill UMC, Salt ‘n Light Youth Ministry, Inc. was born and provided a home base in order to live out the vision of “youth reaching youth with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Our congregation did not have the financial resources in its budget at that time to add a staff member, let alone provide for the initial startup of SnL. Yet, the discernment among the leadership affirmed the Lord’s anointing of the fledgling ministry and unanimously favored this venture. Throughout the last 22 1/2 years, Camp Hill UMC has provided financial support, office space, facility usage, prayer support, board of directors’ leadership, wise counsel and so much more. I was blessed to passionately serve through this incredible ministry among teens. Today, Chris Irvin (Executive Director), Ryan Murphy, Christie Miller, Brook Warren and Jess Feldman serve as the core team. They are unequivocally committed to pointing teens to Jesus and honoring the Lord in all things. The quality of leadership within this core team is phenomenal.
I do not believe anyone really knows how many teenage lives and their families have been impacted by the Lord through this ministry throughout the years. We are talking thousands and many within our own congregation. This would not have happened without the support, favor, and incredible blessing of God through the people of Camp Hill UMC. The Salt ‘n Light story continues today in strength of commitment, passion in service and an unyielding desire to creatively speak into the lives of an emerging generation with the love of God in Christ. Within this changing and colorful fall season, I want, once again, on behalf of the entire Salt ‘n Light Youth Ministry team, to say “thank you!” “Praise God from Whom all blessings flow…” www.snlym.com.
