Pastor's Paragraph for March 22, 2020
MARCH 22, 2020
As complex as these days have been, some of us have felt we are being called back to a simpler way. Staying home, caring for your neighbor, taking a breath and simply focusing on the life that has been given to us. That has not been the case for everyone and you need to know that has not been the case for several of our staff members who are making sure that we, together, can remain the church. I give God thanks for them.
What you do not need at this moment are more words (even from your pastor). If you are like me you are very tired of people speaking at you, sharing more information and telling you how to do almost everything in a different way.
I want to take us back to the basics – God truly loves you, deeply. That is what you need to hear.
I pray that this week we may embrace together the words of Reinhold Niebuhr.
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time,
enjoying one moment at a time;
accepting hardship as a pathway to peace;
taking, as Jesus did,
this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
trusting that You will make all things right
if I surrender to Your will;
so that I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with You forever in the next.
