May 2021 ONE-FUND Highlight

MAY 1, 2021

one fund

United Methodist Churches worldwide help fund ministry together through Apportionments (which we call Shares of Ministry in the Susquehanna Annual Conference). These monies provide funding to ministries within the Annual Conference, for example, health insurance for retired clergy in the Annual Conference, support for the Neighborhood Center and Children’s Home, and grants for church vitalization. These monies also fund ministries worldwide, for example, Africa University, the Black College Fund, and World Service (which helps to fund general agencies like the General Board of Global Ministries and United Methodist Women). So, collectively, Shares of Ministry impact lives in our own congregation, across the country, and around the world.

The Annual Conference Finance Office calculates the amount that each church is to pay in Shares of Ministry. The Finance Office’s formula is based on specific lines from the statistical report that each church submits at the end of the year. The statistical report tracks the number of members, participants in small groups, engagement in outreach and mission, as well as income and expenses. In order to calculate the Shares of Ministry, the data from the expenses is used (but does not include expenses related to preschool, capital expenses, or debt repayment). Please note that there is sometimes misunderstanding around this. There was a time in the past in which the Shares of Ministry formula included church membership. This is no longer the case and the formula is only based on the specific expenses.

For 2021 the amount that we will remit for Shares of Ministry totals $199,471. More specifically, we will remit the following amounts for each of the three categories of Shares of Ministry:

       Connectional Ministry: $72,5

       Clergy Support: $78,137

This funding supports the making of new disciples in our community and around the world and is a critical way in which we live out our mission.
