“In our fast-paced world, time is a precious commodity. Perhaps this is why most American adults—of all ages—believe volunteering is one of the most generous acts possible, even more than financial giving. Over the years, Barna has been tracking the religious views, attitudes and lifestyles—including volunteering habits—among American adults and publishing this data in our Cities reports.”

WHAT TYPES OF SERVICE COUNT?

• Do you serve inside the church walls without pay? (Ushers, musicians, kitchen, Upward Sports, Family Promise, etc.) Do you do so for God’s glory? Yes? Then, of course it counts!

• Do you serve through a ministry outside our church walls? (Ministerio del Pan, Bethesda, Ecumenical Food Pantry, Mission Central, Back Pack, etc.) Do you do so for God’s glory? Yes? Then, of course it counts!

• Do you serve in your local community without pay? (Sport leagues, schools, community organizations, etc.) The key here is our internal motivation. Are we serving to bring God glory or are we serving just because they needed someone, we are bored or because we love our kids? If your motivation is to bring God glory, then of course it counts!
