Office Hours

The church office will be closed for Christmas and New Years from December 24th through January 3rd.

After January 3rd, the church office will once again be open with modified hours. On Mondays, the office will be open from 9:00 am—4:00 pm. Every other day of the week, the office will be open from 9:00 am—noon. For the safety of you, our community, and our staff, please call or email rather than visiting. If you must stop by, please call in advance. You can find our list of contact information by visiting camphillumc.org/staff or you can call the church office at 717-737-5631. Thank you for your patience during this time.

Fresh Expressions

Ever wonder what a Fresh Expression of Church is? Across the United States and beyond, the God who “makes all things new” is up to something. Amid a Christian landscape that looks and feels like a desert of decline, new oases of the Spirit are springing forth. Inherited congregations, with long histories, deeply rooted in their traditions, are experimenting with new ways of being church. When these congregations commit to introducing new people to Jesus, new leaders (both lay and ordained) are discovering that they can start fresh expressions of church to reach those outside of the church AND that our existing congregational systems can be retro-fitted for a new future through a process of “remissioning.”

Matt Lake and Michael Beck employ very different approaches, but their congregations are finding new life. They will explore the theological underpinnings for becoming a new kind of local church, as well as share practical tools, practices, and processes to help local congregations cultivate a new future.

Join them and others from the Susquehanna Conference in a zoom training day on January 15th from 9:30am to 3:30pm.  Click here to sign up – https://www.eventbrite.com/e/from-the-steeple-to-the-street-tickets-111986771448

Let Pastor Anna know (aknox@camphillumc.org) if you do the training, and Camp Hill UMC will gladly reimburse you for the $10 registration fee!

New Small Group Studies

New virtual groups are forming and others are continuing. You do not have to be a member or attendee of Camp Hill UMC to join a study group. All are welcome to participate.

Studying God’s word with our siblings in Christ is a very valuable piece of our Christian walk. Through these group studies, we also grow in relationship, not only with God but with our Camp Hill UMC family and friends. We invite and encourage everyone to be a part of a Discovery Group.

Soul Care

Register now for a one-on-one time slot with Lea Grove, professional Spiritual Director* and an active participant of Camp Hill UMC, or one of our pastors to spend time caring for your soul–and therefore, also your body, mind, and spirit. During this season around the holidays, especially while we’re enduring the pandemic, we all need some sacred, peaceful, and confidential space to process what is happening and what God is doing in our lives. We encourage you to reach out if your soul needs special care. Sessions will last for 50 minutes and are free of charge. Questions, contact Pastor Anna at aknox@camphillumc.org. View available time slots today!
*Spiritual direction is “help given by one Christian to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication to him or her, to respond to this personally communicating God, to grow in intimacy with this God, and to live out the consequences of the relationship.” (William A. Barry and William J. Connolly, The Practice of Spiritual Direction).

COVID Care

Do you or someone you love have Covid, are awaiting a test, or are quarantined? Join Pastor Kathy and others going through the same thing on Mondays at 10:00 am. We will talk about how we are doing, laugh, cry, swap Netfix recommendations, and pray for each other. All are welcome! Participants and discussion will remain confidential. Email Pastor Kathy at kkind@camphillumc.org to receive the Zoom link.

Starting The Year With Scripture

We ended the grueling year 2020 by together exploring our hope in Christ. We can’t think of a better way to begin a new year than to dig into scripture, hoping deeply that a different kind of year–or at least new perspectives on the hardship–will emerge. So, that’s the plan, and we hope you will invite others to join you as we start the year with a new sermon series called–Starting the Year with Scripture. In worship on January 3rd, 10th, and 17th, we’ll be exploring the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Epistles (or Letters) of John. If you were going to write a letter to the you whom we know will be transformed by God in powerful ways throughout the year 2021, what would you say? If you were going to write a letter to others you are praying for right now, what would it say? Let’s explore the letters of John in scripture–and maybe even write our own.

Farewell to Pastor Brand Eaton!

We are saddened to share the news that the Rev. Dr. Brand Eaton, our Pastor of Visitation, has been approached for a new role as Pastor of the Great Conewago Presbyterian Parish. He will begin this new post in January and will be stepping down from our staff as of January 15th. As many of you know, Brand is also the full time chaplain at Bethany Village and will continue in that capacity. He has served on staff here during an extremely challenging year for pastoral care, and we are deeply grateful for his skillful care of those who are ill, dying, and struggling, for his wonderful collegial connection, and for the love and wisdom we have been able to share with him as part of this community of faith. Brand is passionate about many things – including rural church ministry. And so, we invite you to keep Brand and his wife Susan in prayer as they follow God’s call to serve the people of Hunterstown near Gettysburg!

We’re Hiring – A Community Outreach Coordinator!

Camp Hill UMC is looking for a part-time Community Outreach Coordinator. Camp Hill UMC is a dynamic, welcoming church that focuses on making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Drivers Needed

Occasionally, a parishioner needs a ride to the doctors or for errands. We have a few folks who have volunteered to drive but who may not be available at a particular time so we would like to expand our potential driver list in the event of a specific need. If you would be available, on occasion, with advanced notice, please email Pastor Sharon at smiller@camphillumc.org or call her at 717-691-8241. If you have any special notes on availability, as in particular days or times, please indicate this, as well as the best way for us to contact you. Thank you in advance!

Card Ministry

Camp Hill UMC’s Card Ministry needs new commercial or homemade Men’s and Women’s Get Well Cards, all with envelopes. You can drop off items outside the church office. Please call 717-737-5631 beforehand. Thank you!

Bedtime Stories

Join Miss Katie and some special Camp Hill UMC friends to listen to us read your child a bedtime story each Thursday night at 7:00 pm! Listen to bible stories or Christian picture books to have some quiet time to end your night. Bring a favorite stuffed animal, wrap up in a comfy blanket, and hang out with us while we share with your family God’s Love told through funny voices, smiles, and great bible and Christian stories! If you have any questions or would like to be sent the Zoom link, please email Miss Katie at kknorr@camphillumc.org.

CHUM Children Online

For the month of January, we are going to be using the theme, Rules for Life, to help teach our elementary kids about the connection between responsibility and God’s character! January is also going to be Out of This World! We are going to use this fun and exciting theme for our virtual Sunday School lessons to help teach preschoolers about the most amazing thing ever, which turns out isn’t a thing at all. No! He’s a person! You know who we’re talking about – Jesus!

Join us weekly as your kids, ages 2-Grade 5, engage with Jesus through our virtual Sunday School lessons. We encourage you to watch the videos as a family because we want families to experience the grace of Jesus together. Lessons premiere on YouTube Fridays at 12:00 pm. Visit camphillumc.org/children to learn more! Questions, email Miss Katie, Camp Hill UMC’s Children’s Director, at kknorr@camphillumc.org.

Be The Church

We are currently looking for a few souls who love reaching out to others on the phone to help make a round of calls to the congregation to check in during this terribly difficult and disconnected Covid season. You will be given a suggested script to help with ideas for the calls, along with a list of people to phone.  If you’re willing to help, please contact Pastor Anna at aknox@camphillumc.org.

Tech Help Wanted

Since the beginning of this COVID season, we’ve had to make some adjustments, including fast-tracking our need to live stream weekly. With this, we are in need of some help in our worship tech ministries, running the camera, lyrics, and sound for our live stream worship services. All training will be provided. For more information, contact Brad Gardner at bgardner@camphillumc.org.

Someone from Camp Hill UMC will be engaging with you on Facebook Live* at 6:30 pm. In our church’s pattern of praying together at dinner time, we invite you to join in these “community” events and to add your prayers to the chorus. See our updated schedule below!
