As we worship together in October, we would like to let you know what we anticipate our schedule and plan to be.
Celebration Service
At 9:30 am we will continue to live stream a traditional-style Celebration Service from the Sanctuary. We also will be inviting you to register to worship in person. The protocols for in-person worship will include the following: registering for attendance purposes, confirming that you aren’t showing signs of COVID symptoms, wearing masks for the entire service, not singing along when music is played, greeting one another without any physical contact being made, and sitting solo or in groups of COVID circles of connection (those family and friends who are in your COVID bubble and are those with whom you live or share air space) with six-foot spaces around each unit. We believe we will be able to safely accommodate up to 25 units of people with a maximum of 50 people.
New Life Service
At 11:00 am we will continue to worship in person in the parking lot. This service will continue to be recorded and then posted online on Sunday afternoons. The same protocols are in place with the exception of the numbers. Outside we can safely accommodate many more people and family units.
Join us as we celebrate the life of Rafé Shearer.
Sunday, October 25th, 2020
2:00-3:00 pm Family Visitation
3:00 pm Service Begins
To celebrate and honor the life and loving spirit of Rafé, we are asking everyone to come in colorful and casual attire.
Please pre-register here or by calling the church office at 717-737-5631. All COVID protocols will be observed. A live stream link will be available for those who cannot attend in person.
Give Ye Them to Eat (GYTTE) and missionaries Nan and Miguel invite you to a Virtual Missions Trip to Mexico! Online, through a Zoom experience, you will get to know GYTTE and be able to see what an in-person mission experience is like. It requires that you download Zoom to your computer. This virtual mission journey requires about an 8-hour commitment on Zoom over a two week period.
The upcoming trip in November includes two 1-hour team preparation sessions; then three mission trip sessions of two hours each; and an hour of reading before each trip day. The dates are: 1-hour Team meetings: Wed. Nov. 4 and Fri. Nov. 6, at 11am eastern time. Then three 2-hr. mission trip days: Mon. Nov. 9, Wed. Nov. 11 and Friday, Nov. 13, all at 11am EST.
If you would like to go on this Mission Journey to Mexico with GYTTE please respond to Nan at nanmigl@yahoo.com and to Rev. Marian Hartman, mhartman@susumc.org, who will be the facilitator of the mission journey.
The Unified Leadership Council will meet next on November 10th at 6:30 pm online. These meetings are open to all members and friends of the church. To read past meeting minutes, visit camphillumc.org/unified. For information on how to log in to the Zoom meeting, call the church office at 717-737-5631.
It’s always awkward when you meet someone at church, invite them to your small group, and forget to ask for their phone number. No shame. We all do it, but it’s awkward. We have a solution with a digital directory on our Church Center App. You can see other members of the directory and share your own household information. Don’t worry; you can choose which details you want to share! The directory is invite-only! We will be sending email invitations to all members and the past participants of our last printed directory. If you would like to be included, please email Mandy Noss at mnoss@camphillumc.org.
Since the beginning of this COVID season, we’ve had to make some adjustments, including fast-tracking our need to live stream weekly. With this, we are in need of some help in our worship tech ministries, running the camera, lyrics, and sound for both live stream and in-person worship services. All training will be provided. For more information, contact Brad Gardner at bgardner@camphillumc.org.
Upward and CHUMChildren will be joining forces to provide a One-Way Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 10:00 am-1:00 pm in the Camp Hill UMC parking lot. Trunk-or-Treating involves kids trick-or-treating from vehicle to vehicle in a safe space with vehicle owners often decorating the trunk (or some part) of their vehicle in a seasonal and/or age-appropriate way. Gloves and masks will be required when distributing candy, and all food items will need to be individually pre-packaged.
Pre-registrations are required for participants. In order to limit the number of participants arriving at any given time, we ask that you please come during one of the designated times, as Upward families will also be participating during other times. Pre-register here.
Questions, contact Ryan Noss, Camp Hill UMC’s Director of Sports Ministries, at rnoss@camphillumc.org or Katie Knorr, Camp Hill UMC’s Director of Children Ministries, at kknorr@camphillumc.org.
We are looking for candy donations for our Trunk-or-Treat event! Treats need to be peanut-free and individually wrapped. Donations should be labeled “Children’s Ministry” and dropped off outside the church office. Please call 717-737-5631 beforehand. Questions, contact Katie Knorr at kknorr@camphillumc.org.
CHUM Preschool is partnering with Weis Markets in the Weis 4 School program. By participating, CHUM Preschool can earn money for their school as people do their shopping. When you shop at Weis, scan the barcode found here, to register your Weis Club Card. Once you register, you’re in the program and you do not need to register again. Please share this barcode with your friends and relatives so they can earn points for CHUM Preschool too. Thank you for supporting our preschool!
Our community believes in ending hunger. And, in 2020, we will continue to fight against the new challenges of disease and disaster that leave people hungry. Due to on-going Covid-19 concerns, the 49th Harrisburg CROP Walk is allowing each team to choose their own location to walk. Join a group from Camp Hill UMC on October 18th at Camp Hill UMC. Please meet at the front doors of the church. The walk will start at 1:00 pm and a two-mile loop around the church will be mapped out. If you’re interested in sponsoring one of our walkers, simply visit crophungerwalk.org/harrisburgpa, scroll to the bottom, and search for one of our team members. If you’re not sure who to sponsor, some options are Linda Armstrong or Bruce Erickson. If you have any questions or if you’re interested in walking with our team register here, or contact Linda Armstrong at lindajoyarmstrong@gmail.com.
Grab your coffee and join us for our Virtual Coffee Connection on Zoom. Fellowship will begin immediately following the 9:30 am Worship Service on Sunday morning, October 18th. The scriptures call us to be a people who “do justice.” As we consider experiences and systems of racism in our country, what might doing justice look like? Our Virtual White Fragility class is full, BUT there are still two other opportunities to join a study on this book. Join Pastor Kathy for an in-person class. This class began on September 16th but is accepting new members. Register for the in-person class here or by calling the church office at 717-737-5631.
Studying God’s word with our siblings in Christ is a very valuable piece of our Christian walk. Through these group studies, we also grow in relationship, not only with God but with our Camp Hill UMC family and friends. We invite and encourage everyone to be a part of a Discovery Group. Both in-person and virtual groups are forming and others are continuing. You do not have to be a member or attendee of Camp Hill UMC to join a study group. All are welcome to participate.
Volunteer at the Upward Football Concession Stand! This is a fun way to help the kids and watch the games. Your help is greatly appreciated! This year will be a little different as you will be REQUIRED to wear a mask to volunteer in the stand until further notice. Sign up today!
Ideas for prayer are shared from the Sanctuary Choir for each day of October. Feel free to add additional prayers that come to your mind and heart for people and situations in our local church, The United Methodist Church, the global church, and the wider world. Prayers will be listed on camphillumc.org/prayertime and daily on our Facebook and Instagram pages.
Encouragement sessions on Facebook Live are a great way for us to stay connected while we are physically distant. We will now offer three Facebook Live sessions per week. Someone from Camp Hill UMC will be engaging with you on Facebook Live* at 6:30 pm. In our church’s pattern of praying together at dinner time, we invite you to join in these “community” events and to add your prayers to the chorus. See our updated schedule below!
Sundays : Sermon Rewind
Bring questions from that morning’s sermon!
Tuesdays: Children’s Chat with Miss Katie
Wednesdays: Mid-Week Check In
*A Facebook account is NOT required to watch the live videos!
We have heard from many of you who are searching for ways to offer your talents and spirit to your neighbors. We are excited that we are bringing together those who are in need and those who are willing to help. If you are in need of food, someone to run an errand for you, or someone to talk to, we want to connect you with those in the church who care. So, if you are in need or you want to give of yourself, please visit camphillumc.org/bethechurch. Questions, contact Pastor Kathy at kkind@camphillumc.org.
Do you have a great story from our BE THE CHURCH challenge? Share it with us! Email your story to lpetersheim@camphillumc.org.
